A Message from LF Founder Trevor Slavick

In 1999, I began a career as an airline pilot flying to Central and South America. Being a soccer player, I would bring a ball with me to play with on my layovers. In every country, kids would come up to me and ask to play because they didn't have a real ball of their own. I also noticed they really had no place to go once we stopped playing soccer so I started to bring a ball with me on all my trips and never brought that same ball home.

A few years later, my friend Steffan Tubbs, a reporter for 850 KOA Denver, was in Iraq on assignment. He saw soldiers making peace by passing out soccer balls to the Iraqi kids. When he returned home, we ran a campaign at his radio station to send soccer balls to kids in war torn Iraq.

After the campaign, we received requests for soccer balls from people working with kids all over the world. We shared these requests with friends and officially started Little Feet with one big goal; send soccer balls to underprivileged children around the world.

Little Feet was initially a 501c3 non-profit and we asked for donations to buy balls. While we were able to donate some balls, the reality was asking people to donate money just wasn't working. Furthermore, I wanted other soccer players and their teams to get on board and help us. By donating money, I felt they didn't have a real connection to what we were trying to do.

One day, I was talking to a passenger on my plane who was doing research for a company called 'one laptop per child' where their model was to sell a laptop and for every one they sold, they would donate an additional one to a child in need. I thought it was a brilliant concept and he encouraged me to try it with Little Feet. For every ball we sold, we would donate an additional one to a child in need.

We are now on our 4th year of using the 'one for one' model and it has proven to be very successful on many levels. Not only has it allowed us to donate more soccer balls, but it has also allowed club teams and leagues to feel more connected to Little Feet by sharing our game with those less fortunate. By playing with a Little Feet ball themselves, our customers become the direct catalyst to giving another child an opportunity to play. They make the "pass" and together we achieve our "goal".

Little Feet now generates a profit to further our social goal. This is a sustainable and effective way to achieve our original goal where the traditional non-profit and philanthropic approach simply did not work. Our business model is simple: We ask people to use our products, participate in our sport, and in doing so, give back to people less fortunate than ourselves. Giving is an integral part of our business plan and we hope to inspire others to make giving a part of theirs.

Everyone who works for Little Feet has played soccer their entire lives and are passionate about sharing our game. We take pride in our products and our vision. Your continue support allows us to help less fortunate kids around the world enjoy the beautiful game. I encourage you to browse through our videos and photos, check out the interactive LF map, post photos of your LF ball, and most of all, buy a ball.

Our Goal starts with YOU so 'Make the Pass' today!
